DIPLOMA COURSE SYLLABUS


The Diploma programme curriculum enables you to enter the professional interior design field. The curriculum is so structured that you cover most aspects needed to start your own private consultancy and your own manufacturing and contract business after some months of work experience. The design Diploma program develops and awareness of space and and the ability to manipulate the crucial relationships between human function, space, form and colour, which are vital to successful interior design.


1. ELEMENTS, PRINCIPLES & VISUAL CONCEPTS

Design elements is an introduction to the practical and essential elements for an understanding of space. Visual concepts attempts to define the basic principles of art and design and principles to stimulate awareness of the design process. NOTE : For all theory topics only a brief explanation is given. 2. COLOUR FOR INTERIOR & WALL FINISHES

Study of colour and colour planning for interiors. Compilation of the munsell colour chart is the basis for the development of complete colour schemes. Psychological and practical influences affects the choice of colour. Discovery of the dynamics of colour - one of the integral elements of interior design and it's application for interior designers, architects and artists. Various painting and wall finishes. 3. ANTHROPOMETRIC DATA

The lesson focuses on the recognition of the interrelationship in design through analytical and scientific investigation of the human body as a primary source for any constructive element in the environment. 4. DRAFTING ONE.
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
PLEASE READ

The education starts from the very basics of lettering, scales in inches, scales in centemeters, how to use the drawing equipments and then progress to technical drawings necessary for interior drafting. An emphasis on measuring techniques & scales.
So, it is very easy for any previous education person to do this course.



The above are the first 4 assignments that you will be doing. You start from lettering and then progress to learn how to use the conversion scale in inches and centimeters. You then learn to do the Isometric and Axonometric views followed by the One point and Two point perspective views.
5. DRAFTING TWO

A continuation of drafting one, focusing on drawing interior space - isometric and axonometric views.

6. WINDOW AND CURTAINS

Pelmet and valances - the design. Curtain - their design and other window treatments. NOTE : For all theory topics only a brief explanation is given. Question are given to be answered reffering to the internet.

7. ELECTRICAL LAYOUT. DESIGN PRESENTATION - RESIDENTIAL

Designing floor plans and Electrical layout for children & master bedroom, toilet, living and dining room and kitchen.

8. INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECTS

1. Designing a Bungalow.
2. Designing an Architects office

9. FURNITURE DESIGNING

Concepts and skills of furniture designing are explored and applied to interior custom detailing and furniture design.
The 13 projects are - Dining table, Executive table, Double bed, Wooden partition, Sofa, Wardrobe, False Ceiling, Drawing room unit, Dressing table, Dining chair, Folding dining table, Wooden main door, Aluminium partition.


10. INTERIOR DESIGN HISTORY

An integration of the decorative arts and interior design. Prominent designers in various ages and their vision in designing furniture and interiors. NOTE : For all theory topics only a brief explanation is given. Question are given to be answered reffering to the internet..

11. LIGHTING DESIGN

Introduction to basic technical and creative concepts in lighting interior spaces. Knowledge of lighting needs, floor planning and the behaviour of light in developing and interior lighting plan and specification for a residence. 12. MATERIALS AND METHODS

The aesthetics properties and creative uses of materials and finish and their relationship to one another are explored. Questions are given to be answered referring to the internet. 15. QUANTITIES AND ESTIMATION

Analysis of materials and labour cost, estimation of furniture.

16. ONE & TWO POINT PERSPECTIVES

Free hand sketching.
The ability to draw a photographic view of an Interior as how it would look when completed.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA SYLLABUS

In the Advanced Diploma course you do the interior designing of 6 commercial projects.
5) Textile showroom ( approx. 3,200 sq.ft.)
6) Bank ( aplrox. 3,150 sq.ft.)
7) Footwear showroom ( approx. 670 sq.ft.)
8) Gift, Stationery etc ( approx. 3,375 sq.ft.)
9) Travel agency (approx. 1,800 sq.ft.)
10) Advertising agency ( approx. 1,800 sq.ft.)
